Environmental Advisory Committee

The Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) is a group of Maplewood residents appointed by the Township Committee to advise the municipal government on environmental issues including climate change, recycling, clean air, clean water, and protection against health-threatening contaminants. The Environmental Advisory Committee also serves as host to the annual celebration of Earth Day/Week and other educational programs.

In 2008 and 2009 the EAC has been focused on the following goals: 

 

1.  generating a plan to significantly reduce our town-wide greenhouse gas emissions

 

2.  increasing the rate at which Maplewood residents, businesses, and schools recycle

 

3.  promoting the rehabilitation of the South Mountain ecosystem, including reducing the impact of deer

 

4.  encouraging the development of new environmentally-friendly buildings as well as the retrofitting of aging structures

 

5.  encouraging green renovation of the park system and researching the implementation of an organic maintenance program

 

6.  community education

 


Members of the EAC for the 2009 calendar year are: Bob McCoy (Chairperson), Erika Gold, Sheila Baker Gujral, Garnet Hall, Al Kuehn, Bryan Magnus,  Bonnie Magnuson, Carol McCurdy, Dirk Olin, Amy Paternite, and Eric Shorter, plus Fred Profeta (Deputy Mayor for Environment), and Robert Roe (Township Health Officer). 

 


EAC meetings take place at 7:30 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of every month at the Maplewood Memorial Library.  The meetings are open to the public.
