How Do I Recycle?
First thing you need to do is get a container to put your recyclables in. A smaller one for your kitchen or nearby area is handy to have, a small one for your office or near your computer (you will be shocked at the amount of paper you are used to throwing out) and a larger one to store items in your garage or basement. (Wheeled toters make it very easy to take your things to the curb on recycling day.)
Make sure you rinse out all beverage and food containers. You want your recyclables to be free of food residue. Do not put items with chemical residues in your recycling bin.
You can put everything into one container -- no need to sort!
Make sure all plastic containers have a neck that is narrower than the body.
Make sure the container you take to the curb does not weight more than 35 pounds.
Pickups for recycling are every other Monday. You can check the schedule here.
Make sure you get your items out early in the morning -- Department of Public Works asks that you have your items out by 6 a.m. You can put them out the night before.
Any specific pickup questions can be directed to Great Northern Recycling, 732-888-2009.
