Maplewood has a wide array of great parks for you to enjoy.

 

Memorial Park is on Valley Street between Oakland Road & Baker Street

Maplecrest Park is located on Springfield Avenue

Borden Park is located on Orchard Road off of Parker Avenue

SOUTH MOUNTAIN RESERVATION

We are also fortunate enough to have the South Mountain Reservationone of the beautiful natural resources that makes New Jersey the Garden State. South Mountain Reservation covers 2110 acres, the largest park in Essex County, extending through West Orange, South Mountain ReservationMaplewood, and Millburn, and bordering South Orange.  The reservation is watched over and taken care of by the South Mountain Conservancy,  in partnership with Essex County Parks Department.  


Among the distinguishing features are:


Twenty one miles of hiking and walking trails (See the Conservancy's Web site for a schedule of free hikes)

Twenty seven miles of carriage roads for jogging, horseback riding, & cross-country skiing

Ten picnic areas

Dog Park

Archery range

Washington Rock Lookout Historic Site

Hemlock Falls

Rahway River runs through the valley into several ponds and the Orange Reservoir

Fishing at Diamond Mill Pond

Various wildlife, including deer, wild turkeys

Girl Scout and Boy Scout camps

Turtle Back Zoo

Richard J. Codey Arena — contains two indoor ice skating rinks and serves as the NJ Devils' training facility. The arena is also used for various special events.
